The presidency has again described as false the claims by some Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking to contest for a third term in office.
Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, in a statement on Monday, December 23, said human right activist, Femi Falana, had joined those making the claim that the president is seeking a third term.
The presidency said President Buhari is not planning to contest in another presidential election
He said the internet-based gossip about a possible third term had been given credence by so-called groups stagging street demonstrations and asking the president to do a third term.
But the presidential aide reiterated that President Buhari, under no circumstances, was planning to amend the constitution to extend the two-term limits on holding office as president
