President Emmerson Mnangagwa
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has relieved Joram Gumbo of his portfolio as Minister of Energy and Power Development after his catastrophic failure to tame the country's power woes.
Zimbabwe is experiencing the worst electricity blackout since the one that happened in 2016 as a result of a devastating drought, BBC reports.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) had said there would be blackout for about 8 hours daily, because of a drop in output at its largest hydro plant and ageing coal-fired generator.
Due to low water levels and poor coal supplies to the generating plants, the country is currently producing 969MW daily against the peak demand of 2100MW.
