Naledi Pandor, South Africa's Foreign Minister on Thursday, September 5, revealed that xenophobic attacks against foreigners in the country are caused by prejudice.
Speaking in Cape Town, Pandor described this kind of hatred for nationals of other African nations as afrophobia, Reuter reports.
She said: "There's an Afrophobia we are sensing that exists, there is resentment and we need to address that.
"There is a targetting of Africans from other parts of Africa, we can't deny that. But, there's also Criminality... because a lot of this is accomplished by theft."
However, the minister said that the South African government has no provision for compensating victims of recent xenophobic attacks in the country.
